Supporting every child at Little Learners
At Great Oldbury Little Learners, we are committed to providing an inclusive, nurturing environment where every child can thrive. We recognise that children develop at different rates and in different ways, and we are dedicated to supporting each child’s individual needs.
At Little Learners, we believe every child deserves to feel understood, supported, and celebrated. Our inclusive ethos ensures that children receive the right help at the right time, allowing them to thrive socially, emotionally, and academically.
Our commitment to inclusion
As a school-based nursery, inclusion is at the heart of everything we do. We work closely with families to ensure that children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) receive the right support at the right time. Our aim is to help every child feel confident, valued and successful in their learning.
Our dedicated SENDCO is Miss Goodman
As we are a school-based setting we are fortunate to have the expertise of a SENDCO. Our experienced SENDCO, Miss Goodman leads our SEND provision across both the nursery and the wider school. Her dual role strengthens continuity and ensures smooth, well supported transitions into Reception and beyond. Miss Goodman works closely with families, staff, and external professionals to create personalised support plans that meet each child’s unique needs.
Early support for communication and language
Communication and language development is at the heart of early learning. To support children who may need a little extra help, we offer:
- Early Talk Boost – a targeted programme designed to boost children’s speaking, listening, and attention skills.
- Small phonics catch‑up groups – tailored sessions that help children build early sound awareness and confidence before starting school.
These interventions are delivered by trained staff who understand how to make learning playful, engaging, and developmentally appropriate.
Early identification and support
We carefully monitor children’s progress through ongoing observation and assessment. If we identify that a child may need additional support, we will:
- Speak with parents at the earliest opportunity
- Listen to your views and experiences
- Put appropriate support strategies in place
- Monitor progress and review regularly
Support may include targeted interventions, adapted activities, additional adult support, or personalised learning plans.
Working together with families and professionals
We know that the best outcomes happen when everyone works as a team. Our staff work closely with:
- Speech and Language Therapists
- Advisory Teaching Service (ATS)
- Early Years Advice Service
- Educational Psychologists
Through our strong key person approach, advice from professionals is woven into daily routines, play opportunities, and personalised learning plans. Families are kept fully involved, with regular updates, meetings, and shared strategies to support learning at home.
A nurturing environment for every learner
Our well-resourced classrooms, skilled staff, and spacious outdoor areas create an environment where children with SEND can explore, communicate, and grow at their own pace. We adapt activities, routines, and environments to ensure every child feels confident, included, and ready for their next steps.
